About this listing

LOTS OF EXTRAS  | HISTORIC ROSS | COUPLES RETREAT

White Croft Cottage is a romantic, private country cottage for two and a quiet retreat for the solo traveller, just outside the historic village of Ross. Located in the beautiful Tasmanian Midlands, it’s a perfect stopover between Launceston and Hobart, and only a short walk to this fascinating village.

You’ll feel so welcome the minute you arrive! White Croft’s off-site super host Stephanie, goes above and beyond to make your stay extra special with many complimentary additions – a welcome platter of delicious cheese and other goodies which can include chocolates, fruit, fresh fragrant flowers, perhaps cherries when in season. Arrive at night and the lights and music will be turned on to quietly sing, “Welcome to the Midlands!”

Nestled on 2 acres, you’ll be well away from the owner’s cottage. Inside, there’s a cosy, country cabin feel.

It’s so easy to relax here with luxe linens, super comfy queen sized bed, fluffy towels, robes and gorgeous quality bath products which all add to a memorable stay. Plus there’s generous farm fresh breakfast supplies with eggs from the hens.

Read, watch a movie, play a tune on the guitar under the trees, or sit by the fire pit with a glass of wine after sightseeing. You can relish in the thought you’ve pre ordered a tasty BBQ Pack and/or a delicious picnic basket with the works too (see our Services and enquire on booking).

As a bonus, free bikes and helmets offer a quick trip to the local bakery for coffee and treat, or to tuck into the best scallop pies in Tasmania! A 5 min cycle will see you slurping on a drink to live music at the popular local pub and a short drive (or cycle) away, you’ll sink your lips around juicy, plump cherries at The Cherry Farm, if the season’s right.

Visit convict built sites and the famous Ross Bridge – its exquisite carvings so beautiful that their convict artisans were granted a pardon. Craft Centres are a drawcard for wool and wood lovers, history buffs will enjoy the Female Factory – once a probation station for female convicts and their babies. And there’s so much more.

Wander down pretty streets of warm sandstone heritage buildings now upmarket antiques, homewares, lovely gift stores and there’s a lolly shop (the home-made licorice and turkish delight are so good!) And you can listen to local history stories from cute red phone boxes, watch performances and celebrations and love every bite at the Echo Festival Native Bounty Feast in March.

White Croft Cottage is a great base for visiting neighbouring villages for antique hunting, art galleries, craft makers, distillery tastings (the Midlands is famous for its whiskey and gin) and more. Ross provides easy access to the beautiful East Coast, the Western Tiers and many other must see destinations in Tasmania.

Photoshoots are allowed at White Croft Cottage and you may want to say hello to sweet Henry, a very gentle natured border collie who likes to visit. He’s a favourite among guests.
