Arriving at the Ulmarra Hotel by road you’ll clap eyes on this majestic, quintessential Australian pub built on the corner of the aptly named Coldstream & River Streets, during Federation. Blend your historic stay  (the National Trust classifies the entire Ulmarra Village; one of the best examples of a 19th Century River Port in Australia) with honest hospitality and friendliness. Dine by the curve of the Clarence River in one of NSW’s Top 5 Beer Gardens before settling at one of the canopied tables with a round of beverages & a sumptuous gastro pub feed.

Whether you opt for usual pub grub (which it ain’t – the food’s faultless, generous with lashings of local produce) or try Chef’s Shashimi tuna, Wakame, Pickled Ginger  with  Sesame Soy Wasbi Mayo,you are in for a treat. Leave room for the bulging display of desserts, slices and ice-creams – all homemade. Standard pub grub it isn’t!  The Chef spins real magic in the kitchen with the anything but ordinary menu. Try the pump “seared scallops with Thai green apple salad and lime chilli dressing?” For diehards, you’ll see schnitties, burgers and bangers etc, freshly made with lashings of high-quality local ingredients.  We dare you to go past the dessert and ice-cream bar, eyes open and resist!

The town is tiny, the beer garden huge, and the bar lively. The food is delicious, beds are comfy and you don’t have to lift a finger to have a stay to remember at the grand Ulmarra Hotel. Did we mention very affordable? You’d be hard pressed to break a $100 bill for a night, leaving you stacks for dining, beverages and village stores.
