About this listing

UNIQUE | UNWIND & RELAX | HISTORIC TOWN

Unwind and relax at The Galahs Nest – a beautifully refurbished 1940s hall, hidden in the golden hills of the historic mining town of Queenstown on the Tasmania’s rugged and exhilarating west coast.

It’s been such a labour of love to convert the Galahs Nest into an expressive living space for guests while embracing the uniqueness of the West. The hall has been brought back to life and now offers a level of accommodation not available anywhere else in Queenstown. Lucy has done an inspirational job at creating this sanctuary in the middle of town.

Walk through the door and be amazed. WOW is certainly the reaction of guests as they discover what lies behind the cement block facade of the 1947 built building, From the bespoke light fitting in the entrance foyer made from copper piping as a nod to the copper mine that was once in the town, to the solid outdoor stone bath – affectionately known as “spud”, silhouetted by candlelight & the stars above.

And there’s a warm, spicy fragrance of Huon pine from the timbers used in construction. The aroma so subtle and reminiscent of cloves, pine and leatherwood.

The Galahs Nest caters for 6 with two spacious bedrooms and additional sleeping in the living area. There’s a fully functioning kitchen, beautiful new bathroom and open plan living area which opens out onto the deck where you will find the solid stone bath that is waiting for you! Get cosy around the roaring fire pit and listen to the sounds of the rivulet on the back boundary which provides a very relaxing soundtrack while you soak. It’s easy to wind down here.

Queenstown Tasmania is also home to many artists and artisans. You’ll spot dozens of fascinating murals around town created during an artists-in-residence program. Admire the large-scale mural painted by the previous owner and accomplished mural artist, Sobrane.

Queenstown is indeed one of a kind. There’s natural riches & plenty of history to explore, heart stopping mountain trails to ride, rafting experiences like no other as well as a creative art and artisan cultural hub. But it’s only here that you’ll witness the toughest of west coast footballers playing on a gravel oval or a jazz and gin night at a train station!

The Galahs Nest is an equally unique experience and such a comfortable and convenient base to explore all that the Western Wilds of Tasmania has to offer, especially on a road trip to & from Hobart, 260 kms away. It’s only 1 and 1/2 hrs drive from the spectacular Cradle Mountain National Park and 209 km from the Spirit of Tasmania terminal in Devonport.
