Sutherland Downs Retreat

Sutherland Downs Retreat, nestled near Wallis Lake on the Barrington Coast, offers a year-round sanctuary with its award-winning homestead and exceptional accommodation. This picturesque 28-acre estate features a 6-bedroom homestead that perfectly blends relaxation and adventure. With ample fridge, freezer, and pantry space, plus an alfresco dining table for 12 and additional seating, it’s ideal for retreats and celebrations.Guests enjoy complimentary sports equipment, including Finska, Bocce, Hoop Toss, and Cricket, as well as firewood during cooler weather. The games room features table tennis, pool, hockey, darts, a smart TV, a Bluetooth speaker, and an extra fridge for drinks. Onsite activities include exploring the Whoota Whoota trail and animal feeding. In-house experiences can include Paint ‘n Sip Art activities, Day Spa treatments, and yoga. For offsite adventures, guests can book surf and golf lessons, learn to SUP, kayak, fish, or crab, or take a trip to Forster/Tuncurry. Additional activities such as horse riding, E-Foiling, and boat hire are available with advance notice and may incur extra costs. High-speed Starlink internet and EV charging are also provided.

During warmer months, Sutherland Downs Retreat transforms into an outdoor paradise with opportunities for swimming, SUP, surfing, horse riding, and picnicking by the dam. The property supports a range of retreats and events, including Surfing, Yoga, Wellness, Mother/Daughter, and Modern Masculinity, or you can create your own event. Recent upgrades include a swimming pool, trampoline, a fully equipped games room, and a 150m golf driving range. The charming lily pond, a long-standing feature of the estate, adds to the retreat’s appeal.

In addition to onsite amenities, the retreat offers a variety of offsite activities. Guests can enjoy surf sessions, SUP, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, trips to Forster/Tuncurry, horse riding, E-Foiling, and boat hire (pre-booking required).

In winter, the retreat provides a cosy atmosphere with amenities like a fireplace and a jacuzzi in the main bedroom. The nearby Wallingat National Park offers stunning wildlife and natural beauty, and activities such as dolphin-watching, sailing lessons, and exploring local beaches are easily accessible.

Sutherland Downs Retreat is renowned for its craftsmanship, having won the Master Builders Association’s Best Use of Timber award. Interiors feature warm materials like Rose Gum, Blue Gum, Oregon, Tasmanian and American Oak, Plywood, and Western Red Cedar. The retreat also boasts a variety of farm animals, all affectionately named, which children will adore. Local dining options are excellent, with Wallis Lake renowned for Sydney Rock Oysters, as well as seafood restaurants, pizzerias, and a Brewing Co-Op offering locally crafted beers.
