About this listing

BE PAMPERED | PRIVATE BEACH | BRUNY ISLAND SOLITUDE

“Staying here, you really feel like the luckiest person in the world to be right on the water. We ate breakfast every morning on the deck and at night we watched the birds and wallabies. It was the perfect location for driving around the island and easy drive to the ferry.” Sasha, February 2024

THE EXPERIENCE

A serene escape at Questa accommodation in Barnes Bay, Bruny Island, Tasmania, where you’ll feel transported to a simpler time, enveloped in relaxation and contentment. Perched on Barnes Bay’s foreshore, Questa is a meticulously restored eco-stay blending 1800s to 1950s décor with modern comforts. The interior exudes an eclectic, retro-styled charm that is both quirky and supremely homely.

Guests enjoy spacious, open-plan living areas with quality kitchen amenities and expansive wrap-around views, reminiscent of a coffee table photography book. The accommodation’s seclusion eliminates the need for curtains, allowing uninterrupted views of Barnes Bay from the vintage-adorned bedrooms, complete with original fireplaces and an 1800s patchwork quilt on the Queen bed.

The modern bathroom offers a deep tub with views of plum waters soaking in Ancient Earth bathroom products, perfect for relaxing while observing boats on the bay. The open plan kitchen, featuring wooden worktops and an array of cooking implements, flows seamlessly into an adjoining sunroom.

Environmental sustainability is key at Questa, with features like double glazing, full insulation, reverse cycle air-conditioning, and a wood-fire heater and fire pit, ensuring cosiness to year-round. Plans for a solar system further demonstrate their commitment to eco-friendly practices.

Tasmanian Oak flooring throughout complements the wraparound decking, inviting guests to unwind while contemplating wildlife, the sea, and starry skies. Activities range from serene moments on the verandah to adventurous outings like boating, kayaking, and wildlife watching in Barnes Bay.

Located ten minutes from Bruny Island Wild – Food and Events at Dennes Point, Questa offers easy access to local delights (food, wine and oysters!) and wood oven pizza. Whether enjoying winter walks or exploring Bruny Island’s scenic drives and diverse wildlife, Questa provides an all-year-round retreat.

This idyllic accommodation is celebrated for its serene ambiance and commitment to historical authenticity, making it a favourite among guests seeking a genuine retreat. Discover tranquillity at Questa, where every moment promises a return to a simpler, more peaceful time on Bruny Island, Tasmania.

TIPS for your stay:

There’s only a small convenience store at the local petrol station. We suggest guests stock up at Margate on the way to Questa. Alternatively stock up at Kingston (outermost suburb from Hobart), order online, and click and collect on the way to the Ferry at Kettering.

Barnes Bay is accessible from D’Entrecasteaux Channel. Barnes Bay is a very sheltered body of water, perfect for mooring large boats all year round.

QUESTA is suitable for people with limited mobility. We ask you to note that there is level access onto the rear veranda and directly into the house which is level with the house. For wheelchair users there is 20 metres of grass to cross which may not suit guests to the entry. If you want more information, kindly send an enquiry. Plans to make a mooring available are underway for guests to arrive by boat. Meantime guests can arrive by boat and use the public jetty which is 400m from Questa.
